Visit Seattle "All at sea" (2017) 5:18 (USA)

Visit Seattle tapped five different directors to showcase the emerald city in unique ways. This campaign aired on Sundance TV as part of their Five By Five project. In this film directed by Martha Stevens, we are treated to a fictionalized account of Bruce Lee's relationship to Seattle. The martial arts master got his education at The University of Washington, and studied martial arts in Seattle as well. There is also a Bruce Lee Museum there, and he is buried there, too
This film begins with a quote from Lee "Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water."
We then see a displaced Lee having a rare moment of restlessness. His sense of being adrift is matched by his literal surroundings on a boat. It is only when he sees the Seattle skyline does he find any sense of harmony. Beautifully shot, this one. Great choice of music, too. "I like the way you look at me," is a forgotten doo-wop, R&B track by the Pentagons whose lyrics are apt for the way the Bruce Lee in this story looks at the city. Music geek note: The Pentagons were from Southern California.
