Mitsubishi vs. Volkswagen

I scream, you scream, we all scream for originality! But, sometimes the creatives just can't help but have similar ideas.

These two car commercials have two things in common: 1) the airport and 2) kids eating ice cream.

The Volkswagen spot was created by BMP DDB UK and the Mitsubishi spot was created by Deutsch LA.

Do you think that the 2 art directors had the same idea at the same time? Maybe, but it looks like a straight UK/US transplant to me. Who knows which direction. (I'm a Brit in LA, i notice it a lot). Recycling can be good, especially when 2 markets/countries get to enjoy the same good idea.

The choice of music, editing and agegroup for the 2 different ads either says a lot about the 2 different car companys OR the 2 different countres. It's nice to see the 1 idea translated into 2 different ways since it allows a unique opportunity to directly compare the difference in cultures.

Of course, the second guy to get the idea sucks. But at least that way we all get to share the experience.

I just typed out a long reply describing the difference in these two adverts even mentioning the different falavour ice creams being eaten, but i read it through and relised that it was a load of crap. I decided not to submit it you all would have laughed and pointed at me.

I Will say though that it is too cold in the UK to eat ice cream!

i guess this is #2 in the mitsubishi vs. series. if you guys have notised the latest corolla spot carries the same style and a similar soundtrack as the mitsubishi eclipse spot. everybody wants to be deutch.
