Can I download the archived commercials in this site?

or am I only restricted to viewing them with quicktime here.

If you have Quicktime pro, you can simply download the Quicktime with the push of a button.

When you watch the quicktime file, it actually downloads to your browsers cache. Locate the file and save it another folder to keep it.
Please not that different browsers have different locations for the
"cache" folders. Opera and Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari all keep
the "cache" in different places, so what you browse with also affects
where the cached film ends up.

There's another geeky trick - first step is to use Firefox
(http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/central.html) as your browser,
spruce that up with the greasemonkey extension
(http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/ ), after which you can add the "unembed"
script to it (http://neugierig.org/software/greasemonkey/unembed.user.js).

Now when you surf *any* site with embedded video you will notice a
"download" button next to the films. Always! On every site ever. Kewl!

Orbit Media Downloader will happily download QuickTime as well as Flash videos, and save them to wherever you like.

I've just tested it on an Adland commercial and it had no problems at all. QuickTime Player also had no problems playing it back.

And it's freeware!

Thanks, I knew there must be another trick around by now. :)

Yeah, but Orbit is for PC's and PC's suck.
This is an ad community where people use Mac.

In fact, I think Adland should be the first website that works crooked in Windows and perfect with a Mac. That'll teach 'em.

Not everyone in advertising uses a mac, though it may seem so.
I prefer Quicktime no matter which computer I use, which is why I'm hanging at adland. Flash films (like youtube and their billion clones) are the devil.

I wish I used a Mac for work. :(

But on the upside I suppose it means I can check out this Orbit widget. ;)

I use Opera as a browser, and I have to admit there were a few fiddly moments getting Orbit to work with it, but nothing beyond making sure the right boxes were clicked.

Still not getting the "hover mouse over media and a button pops up" option, but that doesn't matter.

There's a little program-ette in Orbit called Grab++, and when that's on, it keeps a list of everything you've seen that's downloadable. All you have to do is decide which to download. (The only snag is that Grab++ has to be on BEFORE you load the web page. Of course, you can always reload the page.)

"...add the "unembed" script to it." I'm geek enough to want to try this, but I'm not knowledgable enough to know how to do it.

Added to the FAQ.
TDD, what's the difficulty with installing the greasemonkey toy?

I think I installed it, but I'm not sure it is working. I rarely see what you describe. It might be some kind of glitch on my end. Or, I might not be tall enough for this ride.

I seem to have a browser addition. I have Safari, Camino, Opera, Firefox, and Omniweb in my dock. I might get confused from overdosing.

I find Safari and Omniweb are the easiest to use to download embedded movies. Of course, there is no need to use those features here with Quicktime.

Right, well, many people ask how, so. *shrug*

I'm more inclined to use Safari too these days, as Firefox is suddenly being slow as molasses. Hate that. In our webstats there seems to be quite a few people who suddenly switched (back) over to Safari.

I'm sorry! I didn't mean to sound like I didn't appreciate you trying to help!

I've got Quicktime Pro. Things are easy here; I just make them harder. ;)

I mainly use Safari and Camino. I'm just getting into Omniweb. All three are built for the Mac. I kind of like Opera, but I was never really impressed with Firefox.

Slow as molasses in January?

Sounds similar to the DownloadHelper firefox extension. I've got it on my Mac.

I think I have that installed; next to the kitchen sink. ;)

I went on an extension binge with Firefox. Then I found I didn't really like Firefox. I could already do what I wanted with Safari, Camino, or Omniweb without any extensions.
